Recirc Heater

This not a photo of the actual heater because I didn't want to tear the system apart to take the photo. The actual heater is made from 1" stainless steel pipe. This photo shows galvanized.

The heater is a standard 120v 1450 watt hot water heater available at your local hardware store for about 5 bucks.

The heater assembly is wrapped in foam insulation tape as is all the copper plumbing that attaches to the heater.

Don't try this at home!

If you are building a rims system, learn from my mistake. Interlock the heater so it can't heat unless the pump is running! Be sure all your hoses are firmly clamped to their barbs so they won't come off when you are not looking. When they do, all the liquid is pumped out of the system allowing the heater to run dry. This is the result of a heater turned on and running for 30 minutes dry.

This happened while doing a test run with nothing but water. No grain was wasted on this one, just a cheap heater and a very wet garage floor.
